According to the police, the accused initially dragged the nurse into the bushes, where he raped and strangled her. He then stole her belongings and fled. The man was later arrested in Rajasthan after authorities tracked the victim’s phone to his location.
On the evening of July 30, she left the hospital and was captured on CCTV taking an e-rickshaw from Indra Chowk in Rudrapur. However, she never arrived at her rented home on Kashipur Road in Bilaspur, Uttar Pradesh, where she lived with her 11-year-old daughter.
The police sent the body for a post-mortem and assembled a team to track down the suspect. They used the victim’s stolen mobile phone to trace the accused, Dharmendra, who was a daily wage laborer from Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. Dharmendra was arrested in Rajasthan on Wednesday.
According to the police, Dharmendra, who was intoxicated, followed the victim and attacked her as she was about to enter her apartment building. He dragged her to nearby bushes, raped and strangled her with her scarf, said Manjunath TC, Senior Superintendent of Police in Udham Singh Nagar. The accused also stole her phone and ₹3,000 from her purse.
